Eumundi School of Rock KicksOff

Scholarship Winners for 2016 the inaugural Eumundi's School of Rock were revealed by Australian Singer Songwriter, Katie Noonan at The Imperial Hotel, Eumundi on Sunday night.

The musical competition was tough with nineteen scholarships awarded worth $750 each, offered to students, aged 8 – 13 who are from the Eumundi, Doonan, North Arm areas, or attending one of the local schools.

The music scholarship recipients are:

Vocals - Emily Broadbent, Rose McKenzie, Olivia Smith and Ewan Argar

Drums - Zion Kendall, Jack Cox, Luke Duregger and Oscar Long

Guitar - Elijah Taylor, Claire McAtee and Zach Hughes

Bass - Tom Whyatt and Roxy Miller

Trumpet - Nick Duregger

Saxophone - Mia Morris, Mackie Wilson-Smithkeys, Emma Cox, Matilda Malone and Sophia Ryan

Katie Noonan said "Eumundi School of Rock is an initiative I dreamt up a little while back - to enable rad aussie music to enrich the lives of the young rockers in our area (kids living in or schooling in the 4562 area aged Grade 3-8)!"

The memorable night included high-octane performances by Band of Frequencies, North Arm State School Marimba Band and the winners of Noosa Battle of the Rising Stars - teenage rock outfit Flintlock.

Katie said the kids will get 12 weeks FREE TUITION and then get to rock out the last day of school at a big community concert  with musicians Jack Carty , Band of Frequencies and herself.

Eumundi School of Rock hopes to boost the amount of students using talented local teachers and are offering a fully mentored program of instruction in a chosen instrument from renowned local musicians Zac Hurren, Darren Percival, Alice Jones and members of the Band of Frequencies, Shannon Sol Carrol, OJ Newcomb, Jacob Mann and Andrew Szumowski. Eumundi's Analiese Long will be incorporating crucial training in performance and stage craft into the lessons.

The kids will form three or four rock bands who will then support The Band of Frequencies at the gig on December 9th at the Eumundi School of Arts.
